Marketing by Public Speaking- Steps to Getting Started

By Cristina Favreau Speaking is selling. It’ an effective marketing strategy because it showcases your knowledge and expertise to many people at once. People will remember you and will think you’re successful. It gives you higher visibility and credibility which will increase over time. But you already know that. Now you want more. You want to know HOW to get started. It’ actually quite easy to promote your service-based business by public speaking. To help get you started, I’ll share with you the steps I took that got me started public speaking and giving presentations. It all started with an article. Step 1: October 2006. I wrote an article entitled “How to Get Unstuck and Regain Momentum.” It appeared in that month’ newsletter, on my blog and was submitted to online article sites. Step 2: November 3, 2006. The readers’ response was so great; I decided to continue the discussion, a very casual one, using Skype. Around 6 people joined the call. Step 3: November 5, 2006. I was surprised with how interactive the ‘call’ went. Most everyone joined the conversation. I asked questions and those present shared their insights then asked their own questions — I hardly did any talking. Following that session, I posted a review of the call on my blog “Marketing momentum discussion continued.” Step 4: About the same time, a call went out to members of a networking group, asking for volunteers to speak at their upcoming virtual summit. I didn’t have a presentation nor any material prepared, but I knew I had to jump on the opportunity. My heart in my throat, I replied, offering to give a presentation on regaining momentum. My offer was accepted. Step 5: For the next month and a half, using my article, Skypecast notes, blog comments and additional research, I worked my butt off writing a presentation description, bio, the actual presentation and PowerPoint slides. Step 6: January 12, 2007. I nervously gave my first presentation “Regaining Loss of Momentum” in a virtual room and it was a success. That’ when things really took off. That single presentation led to invitations to give the same presentation to their groups. To date, this is the most requested speaking topic. It also increased my confidence, so I was more willing to volunteer. I had a similar experience with my blog post entitled “How to create a compelling 30-second pitch.” Not only do I offer this as a workshop topic, I’ve turned the content into an information product — a guidebook called “Designing a compelling 30-second intro” — that I give away when signing up for my newsletter. In the short time I’ve been speaking, I’ve given numerous presentations for virtual events, been interviewed on the radio and via Podcast, participated in radio round table discussions, appeared as a guest host for online networking meets, hosted group discussions and given teleclasses. Despite my maternity hiatus, I still receive speaking invitations. My goal is to start Podcasting this year, and I may team up with 2 entrepreneurs to do a weekly internet radio show. The steps outlined above are simple strategies I used to get started. There are many other speaking opportunities available to you. And if you’re willing to speak for free, you’ll find more than you know what to do with. You may want to expand and improvise on my suggestions for your own business. The point is, just get out there and start speaking. The first few times are the most difficult, but you’ll find the more you use public speaking to raise awareness about your business, the more comfortable you’ll be doing it. You may even find that you like it. Copyright. Cristina Favreau. All rights reserved. Top Tips For Buying Any Shrubs Or Plants

By Paul Power 1. Know what youre buying! When it comes to gardening, impulse purchasing can be fatal, both for your wallet and whatever it is youre about to buy. For a plant to grow successfully it must be planted in the right growing conditions. For example, shade-loving plants arent going to be flourish if planted in an area where theyre going to get full sunshine. Similarly sun-lovers arent going to like being placed underneath your evergreen hedge. So before deciding what to buy, make sure you know what it is that youre about to purchase first in terms of the plants needs and then in terms of your own. Get this right and chances are youre shrubs and plants will flourish and youll avoid wasting money on plants that arent going to do anything. Whatever you do dont rely solely on the information printed on the sales labels. Do your own research before going to the garden centre or nursery. 2. Pick the place before you choose the plant Common mistake is to choose the plant or shrub and then return home and try and figure a way of incorporating it into your garden. Far better to survey your garden before going to buy anything; deciding where needs enhancing and then working out what sort of micro-climate exists in whatever space it is you want to fill. Then choose a plant or shrub that would be happy growing there and then off you go to buy it. 3. Be careful of poor garden centre husbandry Always buy your shrubs and plants from quality garden centres where its evident that the staff are knowledgeable and actually care for their stock as opposed to simply over-watering them. Avoid like the plague the multi-retailers who simply tack a garden centre onto their warehouse sales centre because it complements there other lines. Shrubs and plants arent simply products on a shelf. To grow and prosper they need the right care and attention. Independent nurseries generally employ trained staff to look after their stock and many grow their own lines. When it comes to gardening theres no such thing as cheap and cheerful. Half-price, usually means half dead! Paul Power is the author of Staring Your Own Gardening Business. Marketing Lessons From TV’s “The Apprentice”

By Debbie LaChusa Can we actually learn a marketing lesson from reality TV? In the case of Donald Trumps The Apprentice Id say we can. Advertising and marketing are creative disciplines. That’s one reason I love working in marketing. Finding creative solutions that help clients sell their products and services is a fun way to make a living. Creativity is one of the great things about the marketing industry. But Id argue it can also be its downfall. Too often I see marketers going way too far with their ideas of creativity. In my opinion it is certainly possible to be too creative for your own good. What exactly do I mean by that? Let me share a very public example to explain. My example comes from the reality television show, “The Apprentice.” Okay, so I admit it, I LOVE that show. I’m not much of a reality TV fan, but there’s something about watching these teams compete on business challenges week in and week out that intrigues and entertains me. Quite often they are given marketing-related tasks on the show. Lets face it, marketing is one of THE most important jobs youll ever have in business. If you can do it well, your business will more than likely do well. If you cant market well, your business is in trouble. In a recent episode of The Apprentice the task was to create a TV commercial for Dove Body Wash. The teams were instructed to come up with an “out of the box” 30-second television spot to promote the product. The result? Both teams created garbage! The ideas behind both spots were bizarre, they didnt feature the product the way someone would actually use it, and they werent targeted at women, the primary audience for Dove Body Wash. I guess some may argue they certainly did think “out of the box” creatively and both teams certainly tried to justify that’s what they did, but in the end, they failed miserably at their number one task: to sell the product! And that’s what I think happens to many marketers who try to be too creative. They lose sight of the fact their job is to sell a product or service. To do that effectively, your marketing has to be one word: relevant. You can be as clever or creative as you want, but in the end if your marketing is not relevant to the product AND to those who are most likely to buy it, you have failed. Look, I realize we have to be creative to capture our audience’s attention. After all we are trying to cut through a sea of marketing clutter. Consumers are bombarded with somewhere in the neighborhood of 5000 marketing message every day. Thats a lot to break through! I just wish more marketers tried harder to connect with their audience vs. simply entertain them. Heck, I sometimes wonder if marketers even know who their audience is. This definitely came into play in The Apprentice with both teams showing men using Dove Body Wash in their commercials. C’mon, it doesn’t take a lot of sense to recognize this product is for women! But because they were so focused on being clever, they lost sight of this very basic fact. If I can leave you with one thought it is this: Identify and know your audience and then aim to connect with them in a relevant way. Your goal should be to jump into the conversation they are already having in their head about your product or service category. If you can do this, you will be effective in capturing their attention AND selling your product or service. Online Dating Tips

By Nachiketa Mishra Since the beginning of sexual reproduction on the earth, one sex of a species is always attracted to the other of the same. This is what is the law, the law of biology. Dating is a form of this. When we pass some time with someone of the opposite sex, especially someone attractive, we feel a kind of unknown gratification. So, going out with someone and being with him/her at a place and doing pleasant conversations is what is called dating. Definitions for dating are as many as there are different people. However, the first picture that clicks our minds when we hear the word is a table and a boy and a girl sitting silently over some very expensive food and gazing at each other. Internet has, however, opened a new class of dating the online dating. In online dating, the boy and the girl meet on the internet, over some chatting site or some dating site and then start their conversation through internet. They usually do so by typing messages to each other. Here are some online dating tips you can use to elicit better response: 1. Start With Simple and Innocent questions like, Did you do something special today. For Gods sake, dont start off with something like,Do you love sex? 2. Dont try to act too truthful. If you just want a short-term relationship, just use lies that may never be detected to impress her. 3. Dont start by talking about your past relationship. Talk something more pleasant. 4. Dont be too obsessive about an online date. Be prepared for the worst. Your e-girlfriend may even actually be a guy. 5. Never give your personal information to any online daters. They may be scammers. 6. Dont use your personal information even in the mail-id you use for online chatting. 7. Dont act too sentimental even if you have become, for the person. If you can, better avoid being sentimental at all. And remember, everyone likes smiling faces. 8. After online dating for a couple of times, try making a telephonic conversation with the one you dated with. Use your mobile for this. 9. If you get close enough, try asking for 2-3 photos; 2-3 will let you know if he/she is hiding something from you. 10. Try seeming moderate. Dont try to show your expertise in dating. Neither show that you are too nave. 11. For men, it is suggestive that before they start one successful chatting, they should try contacting many women rather than trying persistently for one. 12. Your first approaching messages should be unique and better than the others send. 13. Be creative in choosing your user name. After all this is the first name shell know you with. 14. For women who get hundreds of invitations, respond to as many messages as you can. If you are rejecting a man from the first message, you may be losing someone good. So, as you take time to accept someone, also think twice before rejecting someone. So, this is a lot in brief. I think, now you can do the job better. A Better Body - 5 Easy Steps That Anyone Can Take

By Kathryn ONeill If only there were a ‘better body boot camp’, we’d be there every February - before spring started to show itself and those lovely winter jackets had to come off. Although this isn’t a better body boot camp, we can offer you 5 practical steps to a better body. Following these steps at your own pace will help you lose weight, get healthier and be ready for spring when those jackets come off! Step#1: Drink Up! You’ve heard it before: we should all be drinking at least 8-10 cups a day. But are you doing it? Are you spacing your water out through the day? Water will keep you filled up, energized and running efficiently. Lack of water can slow the metabolism and make you confuse thirst for hunger. If there’s one step that’s easy to make on the road to weight loss, it’s to drink more water. Step #2: Move, Move, Move We all know we should probably log more minutes on the treadmill or elliptical machine. But what about building more exercise into your daily life? What about taking the stairs at work or at the mall? Or taking five minutes to dance to your favorite song? Every little bit helps with weight loss so get out there and move! Step #3: Eat Dessert We love dessert. In fact, dessert is usually our favorite part of the meal. It’s logical and natural to want something sweet to balance off that extra cheese lasagna or that chicken and broccoli casserole. But what about having a bowl of sweet red strawberries instead of those brownies? What about sliced apples with cinnamon instead of chocolate chip cookies? Look for ways to build in fruit for dessert instead of sugary snacks and you’ll save a load of calories without feeling deprived of that sweet taste. Step #4: Cut Down Where You Can Ok, so you don’t want to deny yourself the cheesecake or your favorite burger. You have to eat that birthday cake or sample your Aunt Mathilda’s famous chicken pot pie. But do you really need to finish it? Start cutting back on portion sizes now, not denying yourself, but doing what you can - and you’ll find it makes a big difference calorie-wise in the long run. Step #5: Challenge Yourself There are some days where the universe is with you. You can go without that chocolate bar, you can drinks lots of water and you actually want that salad for lunch. Recognize these days for what they are - a chance to leap ahead in your weight loss goals and make up for the times you feel you’ve blown it. Run with it for as long as you can. Challenge yourself to make the healthiest choices possible and soon you’ll be feeling so good about these choices, you’ll want to make more. So there they are: 5 Steps Towards a Better Body. While you may not lose ten pounds in one week following these steps (on the other hand, you might…), they’ll definitely get you started on the road to weight loss, without feeling deprived or hungry. The Cosmetics King Max Factor

By Colin Albert American cosmetic trade has expanded from humble beginnings in the early 20th Century into a major multi-billion dollar industry. If there is one man most responsible for the launch and popularization of the American cosmetics industry, it would be Max Factor. Born the son of Jewish parents in Lodz, Poland in 1877, Max Faktor worked at age 8 in a pharmacy and dental office. While apprenticing there he was employed mixing various potions and became fascinated with the human face. Later, as a young man in Moscow, he established his first shop in which he sold cremes, wigs and perfumes. A theater group wore some of Max makeup while performing before Russian aristocracy, which led to his being hired by the Russian royal family as its makeup consultant. He was also engaged by Russias national opera. In 1904 Max, his wife Lisa and their 3 children left Europe and emigrated to America, arriving with less than four hundred dollars to his name, the spelling of which was Americanized into Max Factor during his immigration proceedings. That same year he worked at the St. Louis Worlds Fair selling skin cremes and perfumes and then moved on to the theater district in Los Angeles four years later, where Max opened the Max Factor beauty salon, thinking he might have the opportunity to work in the newly emerging movie industry in Hollywood. Some six years later, in 1914, he invented the first of many creations that would come to be known globally. This initial invention, greasepaint compressed into a tube, was designed specifically as a makeup for actors, one that would not crack. It was Max Factor who coined the term makeup to describe his product. As a result of this product, many of Hollywoods top movie stars began visiting his beauty studio and his reputation was born. During the following two decades, he was responsible for the glamorous looks of celebrities such as Jean Harlow, Judy Garland, Rita Hayworth, Bette Davis, Katharine Hepburn and Joan Crawford, many of whom relied on his services not only for their movie appearances but in their everyday lives. Then in the 1920s Max Factor started selling his cosmetics to consumers, believing that all women should have the opportunity to look like the stars. In doing so, Max was largely responsible for the commencement of the cosmetics industry as we know it today. Many of his Hollywood clients also agreed to appear in magazine ads to market his cosmetics, and the name Max Factor soon became known around the globe. From there Max Factor was responsible for a number of cosmetic innovations including the first foundation (known as Pan-cake), which was applied to the face with a silk sponge. Other firsts introduced by Max Factor and the company of the same name he founded were false eyelashes, lip gloss, the eyebrow pencil, stick makeup, concealer, the mascara wand, water resistant makeup and many others. Max Factor died in Beverly Hills in 1938, but the company he founded continued to grow under the direction of his son, Max Jr., becoming synonymous with high fashion and glamour. In 1991 the brand name Max Factor was sold to Procter & Gamble. For those who are interested in learning more about the father of modern makeup, a visit to the Max Factor Museum in Hollywood is recommended. You will find a restoration of Max Factors original beauty salon containing scores of autographed photos of Hollywood stars, advertisements from magazines, an Oscar, presentations of many of his original creations, four celebrity makeup rooms (one each for blondes, redheads, brunettes and brownettes), a collection of wigs, and a small theater. Admission is free. The writer, Colin Albert, oversees the MineralMakeupShoppe website. The site presents a new makeup product called Naked Minerals makeup, which is a pressed all-natural mineral makeup that is easy to apply and does not stain your clothes. Preventing Stretch Marks: An Ounce of Prevention is Worth a Pound of Cure

By Low Jeremy Stretch marks are never a pretty sight. They may cause insecurities among those that have them – especially women. Unfortunately, unlike other types of scars and skin imperfections, stretch marks are pretty hard to get rid of. Given this, it certainly follows that stretch marks are better avoided than treated. And in this case, the old adage certainly applies: an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Stretch marks are formed when the skin around an area is stretched beyond its elasticity. This then causes the skin to produce collagen on the stretched skin to cope. When the area then returns to its normal size, the stretched skin plus collagen form a purplish scar like formation that look pretty much like a keloid. This condition is common among mothers since their skin around the hips, tummy and thighs suddenly expand during pregnancy. Since the skin cannot cope with the stretching that then takes place, stretch marks form. However, stretch marks are not exclusive to mothers, they also occur in people that suddenly gain weight, and people with dry skin or skin that is not elastic. Here are a few ways to prevent stretch marks from forming and some commonly available treatments to combat this skin condition. 1. Moisturizers. For people with dry skin moisturizers are a must to avoid stretch marks. If the skin lacks elasticity, the body is more likely to produce extra collagen and form the stretch mark. Shea butter has been proven to be a great intensive moisturizing treatment. You could also help moisturize your skin by refraining from wiping yourself vigorously with a towel after a shower. What you should do is gently pat your skin dry in the bath. Better yet, you could pat yourself slightly and let the moisture seep into your skin and evaporate naturally. You could also spray on moisturizing oil while you are glistening moist in the bath. 2. Diet. A proper diet makes the body healthy. That includes the skin as well. While you may not really notice it, the secret to glowing, supple, elastic skin is proper diet and hydration. Make sure you take a good amount of water everyday to keep yourself from being dehydrated. If you are dehydrated, then your skin suffers as well. Also avoid diuretics and other substances that could harm your skin. Coffee and caffeinated drinks are some of the greatest offenders against skin health –so are tea, smoking, and other substances that cause dehydration and poor blood oxygen levels. Gorge on vegetables and fruits that are high in vitamins A, C, and E, which are powerful antioxidants that can help reverse the effects of free-radicals on your skin. Moreover, such vitamins help keep smooth and healthy skin and reduce the chance that stretch marks could appear. 3. Exercise and Massage. Exercise helps promote better circulation and overall skin health. More blood means better nutrition for the skin. And better nutrition for the skin is healthier, suppler skin that is less likely to develop stretch marks. Massage also helps keep the skin supple; coupled with massage oils, could increase the elasticity of the skin. ConclusionWhile maintaining healthy skin certainly improves your chances against developing stretch marks, it pays to remember that this skin condition is also affected by many factors such as genetics, some ailments, and environmental factors. But with healthier skin, you can at least reduce the incidence of stretch marks dramatically. This content is provided by Low Jeremy and may be used only in its entirety with all links included. Health Benefits of Propolis

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Ruth_Tan] Ruth Tan Propolis is a natural antibiotic that is fast gaining in popularity in the application of home remedies! It’s one of those bee products that really cause me to wow at the wonder of nature and marvel at the ability of the highly organised insect - honey bee. Now, let me tell you what exactly propolis is. Some trees and conifers produce sticky resins as part of their immune system to defend themselves against disease. Honey bees collect these substances that ooze from the buds of these plants. After chewing them and mixing them with their saliva and other substances, propolis is formed. This nutrient-rich substance is of vital importance for the survival of the honey bees in the beehive. It is created to sterilize the hive and protect it against diseases and infection. Not only does it help to inhibit the spread of bacteria, virus, and fungi that would otherwise pose a significant threat in the closely-knit quarters, it also and help fight against climatic changes, such as wind and cold. It is also used as a “putty” to seal cracks and openings in the hive and to strengthen and repair honeycombs, and for this reason is also known as bee glue. Another fact that amazes me is that honey bees also use this sticky substance to embalm or “mummify” the carcasses of larger insects that invade the hive. Such intruders are immediately stung to death but because the defending bees can’t transport such heavy corpse away from the hive, they embalm them rather than allowing them to decay. The ancient Eygptians observed this and used propolis as one of the embalming agents for their exquisite mummies! Propolis contains approximately 50-70% resins, 30% wax, 10% etheric oils and 5% pollen. It is especially rich in amino acids, important for immune system function. It has a high vitamin content (Vitamin A (carotene), Vitamin B1, B2, B3, biotin) and is extremely rich in bioflavonoids (Vitamin P) which are believed to have numerous immune building properties and health benefits. Bioflavonoids are the natural pigments in fruits and vegetables and are found in abundance in oranges. This bee glue contains almost 500 times more bioflavonoids than is found in oranges! It also contains an array of albumin, calcium, magnesium, potassium and phosphorus. Like Royal Jelly and Bee Pollen, it contains a number of unidentified compounds which work together synergistically to create a balanced, nutritive substance. Propolis can be purchased completely raw and unprocessed, but it in its natural state is a sticky substance and is very difficult to handle. Some beekeepers will package the raw propolis and freeze it in small portions. It can then be added to a coffee grinder in its frozen state and ground for easy consumption. Most producers utilize a process where the active ingredients are leached into water or alcohol, then either packaged in liquid form or dried and capsulated. Because of its antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, this precious substance has been used as a healing agent for many centuries. It has the ability to provide protection against infectious invaders, promote healing and regeneration of tissue, and provides a superior source of energy and stamina. It has been used as ointments for healing cuts and wounds and shown to have outstanding value for a wide variety of illnesses. It is also used as a natural alternative to penicillin and other antibiotics. It is said to be particularly safe and effective and inhibits the resistance-building effect that is a negative factor with prescription antibiotics. In the former Eastern Bloc countries, antibiotics have never been widely available, but beekeeping is widely practised. To help prevent many diseases, hospitals and clinics recommended washing, gargling or irrigating the sinuses with propolis rinses, as well as taking propolis internally. This bee product is certainly a good weapon against bacteria when used topically. It can clearly prevent infections, and can also help heal infections that have already begun. Do you know that now even toothpastes contain natural ingredients related to honey bees. Propolis has become a healthy alternative to synthetic brands of toothpastes as it is especially useful in mouth and gum disorders. Our mouth is one of the most sensitive spots of our body. This is the place where the synesthesia of senses starts and the food we visualize develops its full smell and taste. The mouth is the starting point of the food digestion. A healthy mouth cavity is certainly one of the elements contributing to the appetite and good mood in general. If the mouth develops sore spots, thrush or gum disease, it causes the whole system to disrupt, resulting in pain and tormenting feeling. Published clinical research demonstrates that propolis fights bacteria, prevents tooth decay, enhances oral hygiene, heals bleeding gums, and prevents gums receding. Manufacturers of propolis toothpastes and mouth sprays claim that their products leave teeth clean, gums feeling healthy, taste great without artificial ingredients, and produce no negative side effects. The salesperson at a honey shop which I often frequent explained that propolis toothpaste are very suitable for young children’s use as even if it’s accidentally swallowed, it’s extremely safe. Such products are easily applied, and have increasingly become part of the everyday dental hygiene of people who are especially interested in natural remedies. My latest discovery while shopping for honey products : propolis extract now even comes in the form of sprays and candies. The spray claims that it is effective against flu, cuts, burns, gum and mouth infections, throat discomforsts and intestinal discomfort, while the candy is sold as a good therapeutic substitute to the traditional throat lozenges and an aid to curing flu, colds, throat discomfort, cough and bad breath. Note of Caution: Propolis is generally non-toxic, though allergic reactions such as skin rashes, swelling, redness, eczema or fever have been reported. As the effects of propolis during pregnancy and breast-feeding have not been sufficiently evaluated, women should not use it during these times unless directed to do so by a physician. Fad Diets & Weight Loss

By P. Mehta A diet may be a fad diet or a healthy diet. People often start a fad diet for fast weight loss. They do not realize that quick weight loss and a fad diet is not the answer for their weight problem. They may lose weight initially but that may not be permanent. The fad diets recommend to eat a certain group of foods and eliminate some foods or a group of foods from the diet. Such diets are not without a danger. Some of the fad diets are: Grapefruit Diet: This diet recommends to eat only grapefruit. Low Carb Diet: This diet recommends to eat foods low in carbohydrates. Low Fat Diet: This diet recommends to eat foods low in fats or eliminate fats in diet. High Protein Diet: This diet recommends to eat only protein rich foods, eliminating carbohydrates Note that these diets recommend to eliminate some food groups that are essential for a healthy body. These diets may offer only a temporary solution and are not based on the recommendationsof the food pyramid. On using a fad diet, you may lose weight fast, but lateron you may again gain weight and your body may be deficient in many nutrients that can develop health problems. A good diet should provide all the major nutrients including dietary fibers, carbohydrates, proteins, good fats, minerals, and vitamins. The best way to tackle overweight and obesity problem is to eat a balanced diet and do some physical exercise daily. You should not start any diet if it does not allow any major group of the food pyramid. The negative calorie diet is based on neagtive calorie foods that include vegetables, fruits, legumes, lentils, and beans, so it allows all the major nutrients in the diet necessary for good health. By eating these foods, you will never feel hungry and you will never gain weight. If you remain physically active and eat these foods, you will deop pounds permanently.
